Can a DUI Justify Revoking a Teacher’s License?

The Court of Appeals says they can according to the decision in Broney vs. California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.  The Court found that even if the teacher is a great educator, by all accounts her teaching or students had not been affected by the DUI and the offense occurred off campus, the state can still revoke a teacher credential for a drunk driving charge.  Granted, in this case the teacher had prior DUI’s.  In the end she was given probation with various terms, the lesson to be gleaned here is to hire an attorney to fight the DUI charges because they can come back to haunt you if you are a teacher in California.
