What is an Expungement?

Many people find themselves in the unenviable position of having to disclose criminal convictions to employers when applying for jobs.  Fortunately, the law gives many relief from the embarrassment and humiliation of having to endure a criminal blemish on their permanent record.  There is hope to redeem a person’s character, it is called the expungement process in California.    The law does compel the petitioner to meet a litany of conditions, Courts require fees be paid to file the legal petition, in addition the petition must be in the proper legal form and must be served on the appropriate agencies in order to be reviewed by the Judge. A California Lawyer should be retained to be sure the petition for expungement is filed correctly.  One Torrance Expungement Lawyer states that the petition for an expungement before being granted by the Criminal Court, the defendant can, in most cases, honestly answer on job applications that he or she has not been convicted of a crime for purposes of private employment. In effect the case will have been dismissed, which means that the state has deemed them to be reformed.
