Checkpoints for DUI suspects are being started up just in time for the busy summer tourist season. Police arrested nine motorists in the beach cities for allegedly driving under the influence (DUI) during a sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint last week. The much anticipated seven-hour sobriety checkpoint began at 8 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of the 4300 block of Pacific Coast Highway. Torrance Police said more than 1,400 vehicles passed through the checkpoint.
In addition to the folks arrested on suspicion of DUI, close to a dozen drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving while unlicensed or on a suspended license. Almost twenty cars were impounded by the police and will not be released without proper evidence of licensure and insurance.
